The HIKMICRO THUNDER TQ35CL 4.0 thermal clip-on is part of the new, fourth generation of the Thunder series. Compared with Thunder 3.0 it brings thermal sensitivity ≤ 12 mK, an in-lens laser rangefinder now reaching 1,200 m and a shorter body. Of the three rangefinder models, the TQ35CL 4.0 is the lightest and, with its 35 mm lens, offers a wider field of view than the TQ50CL – the ideal combination for woodland hunting and shorter distances, where finding game quickly is what counts.

The 640 × 512 px thermal sensor with 12 μm pixel pitch and a NETD ≤ 12 mK renders fur and antlers even at long range. The 35 mm F1.0 lens gives a detection range of up to 1,800 m (1,968 yd) and a 12.5° × 8.0° field of view, i.e. 21.9 m of coverage at 100 m. The recommended day scope magnification is 1×–15×.

Image processing is handled by Image Pro 4.0, which continuously adjusts contrast and detail to the scene, while Sync Pro minimises the gap between what happens in front of the clip-on and what appears on the display. The HIKMICRO Shutterless Image System (HSIS) keeps the thermal image continuously visible without freezing, so nothing interrupts tracking. The laser rangefinder integrated in the lens measures the distance to the target up to 1,200 m, so there is no guessing on longer shots. Five calibration profiles store settings for five different rifles. The image is shown on a 1920 × 1080 px OLED display with 6 colour palettes.

Both the body and the lens cover are made of magnesium alloy. IP67 protection and 6,000 J maximum recoil mean the clip-on withstands rain, snow and heavy calibres. The built-in 64 GB memory stores photos and videos with audio, recoil-activated recording is a separate function, and recordings can be reviewed directly on the device. The Wi-Fi hotspot (2.4 / 5 GHz) connects the clip-on to the HIKMICRO Sight app, and USB-C connects it to a computer or power bank. The replaceable rechargeable battery lasts 6 hours with the rangefinder on; two are included. Holding the buttons switches the clip-on to monocular mode with 2.3×–18.4× magnification, so it also serves for observation. The scope adapter (M52 × 0.75 mm thread) is sold separately.

We recommend the TQ35CL 4.0 to hunters who hunt mainly in woodland, along forest edges and at distances up to 200–300 m. The wide field of view lets you find game quickly and follow it on the move, and the laser rangefinder gives you the exact distance even when shooting across a ride or onto a field.

It is also the lightest rangefinder model in the series, which anyone carrying a rifle with a clip-on all evening will appreciate. If you hunt mostly open fields and need to identify game at 400 m and beyond, choose the TQ50CL 4.0 instead, whose 50 mm lens delivers more detail at long range.
